MIRI: Earthworks for the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant project here is slated to begin this month.

Mayor Adam Yii said in a statement that site preparation activities include survey and clearing, followed by earthworks for construction to begin next year.

The project to be carried out at Lutong is owned by Petros Power Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros).

“Miri City Council has approved the mobilisation of heavy machinery; the installation of construction project signages and installation of temporary traffic warnings,” said Yii.

The earthwork project will take approximately 11 months to complete and the public can expect traffic congestion, as heavy machinery and vehicle movement will increase around the project site.

And there will be noise and dust within the project area.

Yii urged the publoc to therefore take safety precautions by adhering to the strict safety measures implemented and to respect all the safety signage, barricades and directions from the site personnel and the authorities.

“MCC and the project owner’s main commitment is to ensure the safety of the residents, public, road users and the environment.

“We appreciate the understanding and patience of the Miri community,” he said
