KUCHING: Sixteen-year-old Mikail ‘Miki’ Ghazali has made a smooth transition from Muay Thai to boxing as he prepares for his flyweight clash against Misel Sileman in Bout 7 of the Twins Championship 102 this weekend.
Miki, already a familiar name on the Muay Thai circuit, noted that while many fighters find the adjustment difficult, he has felt at ease in the boxing ring.
“People say it’s difficult because in Muay Thai you can use your legs, but for me the change has been easy.
“I don’t know why, but I felt natural when moving into boxing. Others might find it hard, but for me it’s been simple,” Miki told reporters at the Twins Championship 2025 press conference here today (Aug 25).
Despite his age, Miki has bypassed the amateur stage entirely, competing only in professional bouts.
“Before this, I never fought as an amateur, I went straight into pro ranking bouts. Even small things, like wearing proper boxing shoes, felt like just wearing jogging shoes.
“It didn’t bother me. Maybe it’s different for others, but for me it was okay,” he said.
This weekend, Miki will face Misel at N9 Arena, Stadium Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
“Age doesn’t matter much. Before this, I’ve fought older opponents, so for me there’s no real difference. At the end of the day, we’re all human, we all eat rice,” he said.
Still, the teenager remains focused on his preparation, promising to give his all in the ring.
“I may still be young, and my journey is just beginning, but if I get the fight, insyaAllah, I will be ready. I’ll train hard and give 100 per cent,” he said.
Promoters and fans alike have tipped Miki as one of Sarawak’s most promising young boxing prospects, with his blend of Muay Thai toughness and boxing adaptability marking him as one to watch in the coming years.
