BINTULU: A food premises located at the Parkcity Commercial Centre, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi here, has been ordered to shut down immediately for 14 days, from 30 May to 12 June.

It was found to have violated the hygiene provisions under Section 23(1) of the Public Health Protection Ordinance 1999.

The closure order was issued by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) after an inspection revealed that the premises failed to meet the required hygiene standards, posing a potential health risk to consumers.

According to a statement from BDA, the enforcement action was led by an assistant environmental health officer along with three personnel from the agency’s Food Safety and Cleanliness Control Unit.

“This closure is to allow the premises to carry out thorough cleaning operations.

“BDA takes the issue of food premises hygiene very seriously and will not compromise with any food operator who neglects their responsibilities,” it said through a statement today.

The statement further reminded all food operators in the district to always maintain the highest standards of cleanliness at their premises.

“Food handlers must ensure that the food prepared is clean, safe to consume, and does not endanger consumer health.

“This is crucial in safeguarding public well-being,” it stressed.

The local authority also assured that monitoring and enforcement will continue to be carried out regularly to ensure all food premises in Bintulu comply with existing regulations.

This closure is one of the proactive preventive measures taken to curb the potential spread of foodborne illnesses due to contaminated food.
