KANOWIT: Education remains the best investment in preparing the younger generation for an increasingly challenging world, with equal emphasis on developing strong character, critical thinking, creativity and innovation.
Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana said education should go beyond academic excellence to equip students with the skills needed to compete at the global level.
“Education is the best investment in facing the challenges of today’s increasingly demanding world,” he said when officiating at the Yayasan Sarawak FTES Education Expo 2026 and Kanowit District Madani Education Carnival 2026 here on Saturday.
Anyi also urged students in the district to take full advantage of the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) initiative provided by the Sarawak Government through Yayasan Sarawak.
He said the initiative would ease the burden on students and families as they no longer need to worry about higher education costs.
“With this initiative, students do not have to worry about the cost of your studies. The government will assist you, your education is free, there are no fees,” he said.
Sharing his personal educational journey from primary school to university, including his experience working as a labourer in Sibu, Anyi hoped his story would inspire students to continue pursuing their dreams despite challenges.
He also encouraged students and parents to explore new areas of learning through the Madani Education Carnival, including technology, innovation, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), STEM and talent development.
“Use this opportunity to explore various areas of learning, educational technology, innovation, TVET education, STEM and talent development in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani,” he said.
At the same time, Anyi called on parents to continue supporting their children in various aspects, including providing financial assistance, while urging educators to maintain their commitment and dedication in nurturing the younger generation.
