KUCHING: Sarawak’s development agenda goes beyond infrastructure, placing strong emphasis on education as the foundation for the state’s long-term progress.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state’s priority was to build a knowledgeable and highly educated generation capable of supporting Sarawak’s long-term growth.
He added that the government was studying new approaches to ensure education financing in Sarawak could be implemented sustainably to meet future needs.
“We are rich in water resources, but we must know how to monetize them. We only gain value from them when we have the knowledge.
“When we talk about hydrogen, it actually comes from water. We extract hydrogen as a renewable energy source, and this energy will strengthen our economy,” he said.
He said this during the Premier of Sarawak Special Award (AKPS) 2025 presentation ceremony here today.
Abang Johari, who is the Chairman of Yayasan Sarawak, said talent development was crucial, particularly in training a highly skilled workforce equipped with positive and critical thinking to support Sarawak’s advancement.
He also stressed the importance of bilingual proficiency, especially English, in high-technology sectors such as chip production and semiconductors.
“Sarawak is looking at a future driven by four key components — the digital economy, gas, CCUS and semiconductors,” he said.
