KOTA SAMARAHAN: Education plays a crucial role in fostering cooperation between nations.
This was emphasised by the ambassador of Bangladesh to Malaysia, Md Shameem Ahsan, during a courtesy visit and discussion with the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) on Friday.
According to him, the student community also plays a significant role in strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in economic and diplomatic aspects.
Shameem highlighted that collaboration among various sectors —including government, universities, private enterprises, and individuals — is essential for national and community development.
“Diplomacy is not just about negotiations between governments; the student community also plays a crucial role in fostering bilateral relations.

“For instance, Malaysian students studying in Bangladesh gain exposure to our culture and language, helping to build networks between both countries. This interaction contributes to strengthening our economic and diplomatic relations,” he stated.
At the same time, he expressed hope that Unimas could offer scholarships to Bangladeshi students to further promote educational collaboration between the two nations.
Earlier, the Bangladesh embassy delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Sarawak Timber Association (STA) to discuss bilateral relations and economic investments between Malaysia and Bangladesh at Wisma STA.
A total of 15 Bangladeshi students are currently pursuing various programmes at Unimas.
Also present at the courtesy visit were the Chairman of the Unimas Board of Directors, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, and other delegates from the Bangladesh embassy.
