KUCHING: The distribution of educational tablets to students is believed to help them improve their academic performance and pave the way for a brighter future, said deputy director of the Learning Management Sector at the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS), Siti Zulaiha Ibrahim.
She emphasised that students should use the provided facilities wisely and responsibly.
“When you are responsible, it means you must be accountable and answerable,” she said.
“For teachers, you play a crucial role in ensuring that every student involved can fully participate in this programme.
“Monitor the students’ progress and provide guidance so that they can truly take advantage of this opportunity to improve their academic performance, especially for the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination,” she added.
She said this during her speech at the Program Anak Kita: SPM 2025 and the Educational Tablet Distribution Ceremony for the Sarawak Region at the JPNS Auditorium here today (Feb 21).
According to Siti Zulaiha, Program Anak Kita: SPM 2025 is a key government initiative under the focus on education.
It reflects efforts to enhance access to quality education for all segments of society, particularly students in need.
She stated that the programme has been designed with clear objectives.
A total of 1,255 students from 128 schools and 72 trainers in Sarawak have been selected to participate in the programme.
Among them is improving literacy and numeracy levels among primary school students, which serve as a crucial foundation for lifelong learning.
“Additionally, this initiative aims to increase the percentage of SPM candidates eligible for certification, thereby opening up greater opportunities for them to pursue further education or enter the job market.
“It is also intended to reintegrate dropouts back into the education system and ensure they return to the right educational path for a brighter future,” she explained.
She further elaborated that this initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, Unit Pantau MADANI, Yayasan Hasanah, and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
Furthermore, the programme encompasses various intervention activities designed to complement and support ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM).
She further noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the national education system, particularly on students at risk of dropping out.
“Therefore, Program Anak Kita serves as a strategic response to address this issue through holistic support and targeted interventions,” she added.
