SIBU: An educational talk session hosted by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central will be held at Catholic High School here on May 17, starting at 1:00 pm.

Its Central Youth Chief, Kevin Lau Kor Jie, said the event is being organised in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology and Yayasan Sarawak.

“The talk is aimed specifically to expose students to higher education pathway as well as various forms of financial assistance.

“Those present will have the opportunity to receive direct information from the Swinburne University of Technology and Yayasan Sarawak coming from Kuching to share this important information,” he told a press conference during a ‘Kopitiam Talk’ session organised by SUPP Dudong and Sibu Jaya branches at a coffee shop on Jalan Mantis, Upper Lanang, here on Sunday.

According to Lau, who is also SUPP Bawang Assan Chairman, among the things to be addressed are scholarship offers, programmes of study provided by Swinburne, as well as opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The Yayasan Sarawak, in turn, is expected to give a briefing on the form of financial assistance offered to local students.

Therefore, Lau called on Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) graduates not to miss the golden opportunity to attend.

In fact, he said, Form Four and Form Five students as well as parents are also encouraged to participate in the event as the Sarawak Government would start offering free education for next year’s STEM field.

“This is the best time to plan the future and get early information on higher education,” Lau added.
Also present was SUPP Dudong Branch Chairman, Wong Ching Yong.
