SARAWAK is stepping up efforts to achieve a high-income and developed economy by 2030 through stronger industrial ecosystems, digitalisation and the empowerment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Deputy Premier, who is also Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, said the state’s focus under the plan was to drive a more inclusive and sustainable economic transformation, with industries and MSMEs remaining key growth drivers.

“Among the strategies outlined are strengthening local supply chains through partnerships and capacity-building, expanding higher-value downstream activities, developing the oil and gas services and equipment sector, and accelerating digitalisation across priority sectors,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today (May 20).

The state also plans to drive high-value investments in strategic industries while developing a skilled and productive workforce aligned with industry demands.

“Strategic partnerships would also be intensified to ensure local enterprises are better prepared to meet investor expectations and industry requirements,” he added.

In line with this, he said his ministry had developed ENBASE, a centralised one-stop digital MSME repository and entrepreneurship management system.

“The platform will simplify access to financial assistance, training, and development programmes, while enabling more coordinated and effective policy planning by the government.

“I therefore urge the business community to fully utilise this platform,” he said.

Awang Tengah said Sarawak’s vision under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) was centred on building a prosperous and sustainable state where both urban and rural communities could progress together.

“Through the empowerment of MSMEs via innovation, digitalisation and entrepreneurship, we are building a resilient high-income economy where Sarawak enterprises can compete confidently at the regional and global levels,” he added.
