PARIS, France: A French court on Friday convicted eight people in connection with the 2016 robbery of US celebrity, Kim Kardashian, after a high-profile trial in Paris, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.

Seven of the convicted received prison sentences of between three and eight years, some of which were suspended.

Another received a fine, while two other defendants were acquitted.

The charges against the nine men and one woman ranged from armed robbery and illegal possession of weapons to deprivation of liberty and forgery of documents.

Dubbed the “grandpa robbers” by the French press due to their average age of 60, the defendants have been on trial since late April.

Kardashian, 44, was attacked on the night of October 3, 2016, at a luxury residence in the chic 8th district of Paris.

The robbers took several million euros’ worth of jewellery from her which has never been recovered. – BERNAMA-dpa
