MEXICO CITY: The death toll in the crash of a C-130 military transport plane in Colombia has risen to eight, with 83 people injured, Putumayo Department Governor John Molina said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

“According to official data, there were 125 people on board, including the crew, 83 people were injured, eight died, and 14 of the injured are in critical condition,” Molina said, in a statement published by the Kienyke news outlet.

Earlier, Colombian President Gustavo Petro reported one death and 77 injuries in the plane crash.

Air Force Commander Gen. Carlos Silva announced on Monday that a Hercules aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff near Puerto Leguizamo in the Putumayo Department while en route to Puerto Asis.
