KUCHING: Eight new Permanent Food Production Parks (TKPMs) in the State are in the planning stage and expected to be operational by the year 2020.
In saying this, Assistant Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail (pic) said in this programme, the federal government will allocate the funds for the infrastructure development of the farm while the state government will provide the land for the project site.
“So far in the state, two parks have been operated namelt Kabuloh in Miri, with the cooperation of Saberkas Sarawak, and also in Semenggok, Kuching, where both parks involve a total of 69 agropreneurs participants.
“Meanwhile three other areas where the infrastructure are being developed are in Rampangi, Kuching, Penipah Mukah, and also in Bau, and this will include eight more areas which are in the planning stage, including in Betong,” said Rahman.
He said this in reply to the question from Layar Assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu on TKPM Betong during the 2nd term of the 18th State Legislative Assembly, yesterday.
Rahman added for Betong, the TKPM will be located in Debak Agriculture Centre with an area of 25 hectares and that the park will be gazetted as TKPM, and entrepreneurs are responsible for managing agricultural project on a rental basis at affordable rates.
On the type of crops and the cost for the project development, Rahman noted that the plants proposed are Banana, Guava, ‘Rose Apple’ (Jambu Air), Lime and vegetables. “A total of six people will be selected to become the TKPM participants in Debak, and the development will cost RM3 million,” he said.
