KUANTAN: An elderly couple died and four others, including a teenager, were injured in a two-vehicle accident at KM 134 of Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Lumpur near Temerloh yesterday evening.

Temerloh Police Chief ACP Mohd Nasyim Bahron said the driver of a Perodua Kancil, Zulkifli Md Yusof, 72, died at the scene after being pinned in his seat in the 5.25 pm incident.

“His wife, Radzuan Mohamad, 67, who was the front-seat passenger, was confirmed dead at 8.55 pm while receiving treatment at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HOSHAS) in Temerloh,” he said in a statement today.

He said the couple’s 13-year-old grandson is in critical condition and is being treated in the hospital’s red zone.

The accident also involved a Perodua Myvi with three Malaysian Armed Forces personnel, aged 22 to 27. All three were injured and are receiving treatment in the hospital’s yellow zone.

“Preliminary investigations indicated that the Perodua Myvi, driven by a 22-year-old heading from Kuantan towards Kuala Lumpur, lost control and veered into the opposite lane before crashing into the victims’ car,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. – BERNAMA
