Elderly man found dead after days in locked room

KUCHING: An elderly man was found dead inside a locked room on the first floor of a three-storey shophouse at Taman Supreme here this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) confirmed that the deceased is identified as Chan Poh Huat, 71.

It was believed that he had been trapped in the room for nearly a week before authorities were alerted around 10:20 am.

Firefighters from Tabuan Jaya station were dispatched to the scene, about 6.5 kilometres away, where they forced open the locked door using specialised equipment.

The victim was later found lying motionless on the bed.

Firefighters assisted the police in moving the body into a body bag before it was taken away in a police vehicle for further action.

The cause of death is still under investigation.
