SERIAN: An elderly man who went missing for over a day was found safe at Tabung Haji oil palm estate in Gedong on Tuesday, bringing a tense search and rescue (SAR) operation to an end.

Gingan Dalot, 67, was last seen on Monday afternoon riding his Honda RS150 motorcycle but never returned home, which sparked concern among his family and villagers.

After initial search attempts failed, the family lodged a police report for assistance to locate the missing victim.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Serian station were dispatched to the scene, about 50 kilometres away via an estate road, following a distress call help at 2:55 pm on Tuesday.

Rescuers found Gingan’s motorcycle was found at around 6pm, but there was no sign of him nearby.

At around 8:20 pm, police informed Bomba that the victim had been found safe by workers in the estate.

Firefighters and an ambulance team later transported Gingan to Serian Hospital for a medical check-up.

Following the discovery, the search operation ended at 10:00 pm.
