MIRI: A 75-year-old male survived but sustained severe head injuries after falling approximately 500 metres while hiking Mount Mulu today.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said it received a distress call at 12:45 pm and immediately dispatched a Mountain Cave Search and Rescue (MOCSAR) team from Marudi to the scene at Camp 5, located about 15 kilometres away.

“The man, who was conscious but sustained serious injuries, including head bleeding, received first aid by the MOSCAR team to stop the bleeding,” it said in a statement today.

The department added that the man was part of a group of hikers and was also accompanied by a tour guide.

“Assistance was also requested from the Sarawak Air Unit, and the man airlifted to the Miri Hospital by Layang-Layang Aerospace Miri Sdn Bhd.

“He was accompanied by a medical team from the hospital,” it said.
