KUCHING: An elderly man narrowly escaped unharmed after a fire razed his two-storey semi-permanent house at Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol, Kampung No 5 here last night (Oct 7).
The 62-year-old victim, who also holds a person with disability card, managed to get out safely before first responders arrived.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Padungan and Batu Lintang stations were dispatched to the scene, about 5km away, following a distress call 10.06 pm.
Upon arrival, they found the house beyond saving and proceeded to put out the flames using water sourced from their fire engines.
The flames were brought under control by 10.30 pm, and overhaul works followed to ensure no reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 11.01 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
