KUCHING: A 60-year-old man was left homeless after his semi-permanent house was completely destroyed in a fire at Jalan Tunku Yasin 2, Batu 10, Matang, here on Thursday night.
Fortunately, the fire, which affected about 20 by 60 square feet of the house, did not cause any injuries as the sole occupant managed to escape unharmed.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said they received a distress call on the incident at 9:08 pm and immediately deployed a team from the Petra Jaya station to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the firefighters found the house already engulfed in flames and was 100 per cent destroyed,” it said in a statement.
It added that firefighting operations were carried out using two hose-reel lines with water supply from a nearby hydrant.
The Batu Lintang station also provided assistance by performing relay pumping to support the Petra Jaya team.
The operation, involving 16 firefighters and three appliances, ended at 10:38 pm. Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) officials was also at the scene to assist.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
