BELAGA: An elderly man has been reported missing after failing to return home from fishing downstream of Batang Rajang since Saturday (Apr 27).
Awi Lahang, 56, was last seen wearing a red long sleeve and black shorts. He is about 150cm tall with short black hair.
It was reported that Awi had gone out for fishing around 10 pm on Saturday, downstream of Batang Rajang.
After failing to return home, his family went out to search for Awi and they only found his personal belongings in the boat.
This prompted the family to report the incident to the police for further assistance.
Firefighters from Belaga station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call from Belaga police.
Rescuers had to embark on a one-hour boat ride to reach the scene and initiate the search and rescue (SAR) operation.
At the time of writing, Awi remains unaccounted for.
