Elderly man suffers burns in early morning blaze

BINTULU: A 65-year-old man sustained burns to his back in a house fire that broke out in the early hours of Sunday at Taman Medan, Ginseng, along Jalan Sibiyu here.

The victim, one of four occupants in the residence at the time, received initial treatment at the scene by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) personnel before being transported to Hospital Nyabau for further medical care.

Three other individuals, including an 88-year-old elderly woman, the 43-year-old homeowner, and another woman whose age has not been confirmed, managed to escape the blaze uninjured.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre said it received a distress call regarding the incident at 3.49 am.

A team of firefighters from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station was swiftly dispatched to the scene.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
