Elderly rider dies after being run over by lorry

KUCHING: An elderly man was killed after his motorcycle collided with a cement lorry along Jalan Tun Jugah in front of Gala City yesterday (Sept 10).

The accident happened at around 11 am when the victim’s Honda motorcycle, which was travelling on the left side of the lorry, scraped against the vehicle.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim, who is in his 60s, lost control of his motorcycle and fell under the lorry, which was moving straight along the middle lane, and was subsequently run over.

“Paramedics from Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) Emergency Unit confirmed the victim’s death at the scene at 11.07 am.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

“If convicted, the offence carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a RM50,000 fine,” he said.
