KOTA SAMARAHAN: A septuagenarian was killed after the motorcycle he was riding on, had allegedly crashed into an electricity pole along Jalan Asajaya today.

Earlier, it was reported that a lorry had gotten tangled in some cables and dragged them a few metres from its original position.

Such an act had led to several electricity poles falling on the road and hitting the roofs of some vehicles.

The victim identified as Thian Joon Jee, 74, is believed to have crashed into one of the fallen poles.

Paramedics confirmed that the victim died at the scene and his body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Asajaya station were deployed to the scene, which occurred in front of Asajaya district office, after receiving a distressed call around 3.15 pm

Upon arrival, the team confirmed the incident and proceeded to cut the cables as well as moving the poles that were blocking the road after obtaining approval from a Telekom official.

The team also carried out cleaning works at the scene to ensure that there are no obstacles and danger to road users.

The whole operation wrapped up around 6.30 pm and the team headed back to their station.
