Elderly woman injured, driver unharmed as car crashes

KANOWIT: An elderly passenger sustained minor injuries after the car she was in, skidded and crashed into a drain along Jalan Lukut Penyulau on Tuesday.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Kanowit station were dispatched to the scene, about 12km away, following a distress call at 3.45 pm.

Upon arrival, they found the vehicle crashed in the drain and assisted both the driver and passenger out of the car. The passenger, a 76-year-old woman, was found unconscious in the back seat.

Firefighters immediately fitted her with a cervical collar and administered first aid before transporting her to Kanowit Hospital. The extent of her injuries was not known.

Meanwhile, the 51-year-old driver escaped the accident without injuries.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 4.27 pm.
