SARIKEI: An elderly woman was killed while three others escaped unhurt following a two-vehicle collision in front of the Customs Housing area here this afternoon.
The accident happened at around 1:25 pm and involved a Perodua Axia and a Perodua Aruz vehicles, each carrying two individuals.
In the Axia, the passenger, a 42-year-old man, escaped unharmed, while his driver – identified as Chieng Lee Ung, 71 – was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The occupants of the Aruz escaped unharmed.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Sarikei station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call.
Upon arrival, they used a stretcher to extricate the deceased from the vehicle before handing her body over to the police for further action.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 1:40 pm.
