BETONG: An elderly woman lost her home when a fire completely destroyed her house at Kampung Tuie, Debak.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), it received an emergency call at 1.09 pm on the incident.
Firefighters from the Betong fire station were dispatched to the scene, located about 50 kilometres away.
“Upon arrival, the team found a non-permanent house fully engulfed in flames. The fire also caused minor damage to two nearby houses. No casualties were reported during the operation,” it said.
Firefighters worked swiftly to extinguish the blaze using a 400-foot hose, drawing water from the village’s water storage containers with the help of a water pump.
The operations commander reported difficulties in accessing the location, as heavy machinery was unable to enter the area.
As a result, firefighters had to use a utility pick-up truck to transport equipment to the scene.
The operation concluded at 5.10 pm, and the team returned to the station.
