BINTULU: A late night electrical fire at a commercial outlet in The Spring Bintulu was swiftly brought under control in the early hours of Monday (Feb 23), with no injuries reported and minimal damage sustained.
The incident, involving an electrical appliance, was reported to the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station at 3.35am by a member of the public.
Fire crews were mobilised immediately and arrived at the scene within four minutes.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a fire involving a switch box inside a spectacle shop measuring approximately 24 by 24 square feet.
Initial assessment found that the blaze was confined to electronic equipment within the premises.
Crucially, the fire had already been fully extinguished by the building’s automatic sprinkler system before firefighters commenced active intervention.
Firefighters conducted a full size-up of the affected area and surrounding premises to ensure there was no risk of re-ignition or fire spread.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the situation was under control when the firemen arrived.
Safety checks were carried out to confirm there were no residual hotspots or electrical hazards.
A fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle were deployed as part of standard operating procedure.
A total of eight personnel were involved in the operation, including supervisory officers, drivers and firefighters.
The operation was declared under control at 4am and concluded 20 minutes later after firefighters confirmed the premises were safe.
No casualties were reported and there was no evacuation of the shopping complex. The cause of the electrical fault is expected to be investigated further.
