MARUDI: Residents in Tanjung Upar here can now enjoy electricity supply following the successful implementation of the Rural Electrification Scheme (RES).
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala said the launch marks the succesful completion of the electricity supply project under RES, which is one of the government’s key initiative to empower rural development.
“The RES project, which cost RM7.1 million, reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that rural communities are not left behind,” he said during the launch of the project held at Rh Vincent, Tanjung Upar here recently.
He also commended Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and all parties involved for overcoming logistical and geographical challenges to complete the project.
Gerawat, who is also Mulu assemblyman, urged the Tanjung Upar residents to make full and responsible use of the electricity supply, highlighting its potential to support small-scale economic activities, entrepreneurship, and improve the daily lives of the community, particularly the younger generation.
“The government will continue to assess needs and plan improvements from time to time to ensure that the benefits of development are felt continuously,” he added.
