KUCHING: The Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) Latin Training Camp Workshop 2025 concluded successfully on Sunday after three days of intensive coaching sessions held from December 5 to 7 in Kuching.
Jointly endorsed and supported by the Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), the workshop was organised by the Russell, Randell & Cindy Dance Company (RRCDC).
“A total of 23 DanceSport athletes comprising 20 competitors from Sarawak and three from Sabah took part in the training programme,” according to a press statement by SDA yesterday (Dec9).
Participants received high-level competitive guidance through group and individual sessions conducted by renowned Korean DanceSport coach, Nam Gi Yong, who made his first visit to Kuching for this programme.
In addition to Latin technique training, participants also engaged in daily K-pop sessions led by Shanx, fitness lessons by Deborah Lee and body conditioning screening provided by Chiropractic & Joint Specialists Tag Kuching.
According to SDA Organising Secretary Cindy Chung, the additional sessions were designed to provide athletes with a more holistic understanding of competition preparation, especially as competition calendars continue to intensify and place greater physical demands on dancers.
SDA President, Chester Lim said the camp forms part of SDA’s ongoing athlete development programme aimed at raising the standard of emerging DanceSport talents toward higher-level international competitions.
“I am confident that the athletes benefited greatly from the training, based on direct feedback received from Nam,” he said.
However, Chester encouraged dancers to continue practising and applying the skills learned, while increase training discipline together in preparation for the 2026 competition season.
“It is very important for continuous support from SSC and MSNS, describing the backing from the two agencies as crucial for strengthening the long-term progression of DanceSport in Sarawak and helping drive the state’s aspiration of becoming Malaysia’s leading dancesports state.
