KUCHING: The free education initiative starting from 2026 gives opportunity to eligible Sarawakian children who wish to further their studies, said Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

The Tupong assemblyman emphasised that the initiative aims to provide access to education for all students, particularly in key fields that align with Sarawak’s development plans.

“We ensure that those interested in continuing their education are able to do so in the fields that we have identified.

“Why have we identified these fields?

“Because we know that these are the fields that will help with the Premier’s plan for developing Sarawak, such as hydrogen, methanol and green economy.

“These all require specific expertise.

“Therefore, we are offering assistance in areas that are necessary for the future, and because it is free, our children must work hard to be eligible for these fields,” he said.

He said this in his speech when officiating at the ‘Gerak Rahmah Programme: Let’s Cook Bubur Lambuk for Unity in Sarawak 2025’ at Al-Fitrah Surau, Gita here today.

Earlier, he highlighted the importance of giving back to the community, noting that their contributions include not only financial donations but also expertise, as seen in the annual ‘bubur lambuk’ distribution programme.

“The primary purpose is to increase our acts of worship during the fasting month, meaning we offer our services in the form of money, time or expertise.

“We cook ‘bubur’ (porridge), prepare other dishes, and then donate them to our brothers and sisters in this neighbourhood so they can break their fast.

“We hope our charity will be reciprocated by Allah SWT with greater blessings,” he said.

During the event organised by Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) Taman Fitrah in collaboration with Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Taman Fitrah, 150 servings of ‘bubur pedas’ and 150 servings of ‘bubur lambuk’ were distributed to the community.
