BINTULU: Plans are underway to establish an Emergency Medical Facility at Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) to ensure quick medical response in the event of workplace emergencies.

The proposed facility, designed to operate round the clock, aims to provide on-site medical support and ambulance services, complementing existing emergency response measures within SIP.

A meeting yesterday (Feb 18) chaired by Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Malcom Mussen Lamoh brought together key stakeholders and senior industry leaders to deliberate on the facility’s role in boosting workplace safety.

Perkhidmatan Antarabangsa SOS Sdn Bhd (PKA.SOS), in collaboration with International SOS, presented the proposal, highlighting their expertise in industrial health and emergency services.

The proposal is designed to enhance workplace safety in SIP by ensuring quick medical response for emergencies.

A dedicated team will be in place to manage urgent situations, provide pre-hospital care, and stabilise serious injuries or illnesses.

Given SIP’s location about 60 kilometers from town, the plan includes a fully equipped ambulance service to facilitate fast transfers to Bintulu Hospital for advanced treatment.

This initiative helps bridge the distance barrier and ensures reliable medical support for the SIP community.

By strengthening safety measures, the facility will also enhance SIP’s reputation as a prime destination for heavy industry investments.

SIP is an 8,000-hectare industrial hub with 14 investors in sectors like aluminium, ferroalloys, polysilicon, and industrial gas production.

It plays a key role in Sarawak’s industrial growth, supported by facilities such as Samalaju Port, a water treatment plant, a fire department, and Samalaju Resort.
