KUCHING: Sarawak is deepening ties with Commonwealth business leaders to boost investment in renewable energy, the digital economy and aerospace.
During a courtesy visit yesterday, Lord Hugo Swire, deputy chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), praised Sarawak’s leadership in green hydrogen, digital transformation, and semiconductors.
“Sarawak is demonstrating remarkable ambition across multiple industries,” Swire said after meeting Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
He affirmed CWEIC’s commitment to collaboration, following up on discussions from his chairman Lord Marland’s visit in February 2024.
A Sarawak business delegation will visit the UK during the Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit next April.
Awang Tengah, also Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, welcomed the partnership.
“The UK has long been a valued trade and investment partner, and we look forward to expanding collaboration in high-value industries,” he said.
Swire toured the PETROS multi-fuel station at Darul Hana and met SMD Semiconductor’s leadership, discussing UK-Sarawak partnerships in semiconductor technology.
InvestSarawak CEO Timothy Ong noted that Sarawak’s economic vision aligns with the UK’s priorities in sustainability and technology.
Also present at the meeting were Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, the Ministry’s Advisor Datuk Seri Naroden Majais, PETROS Senior Vice President Sarawak Resource Management Dato Abang Arabi, and PETROS Senior Manager Business Development and Planning Lewis Yong.
