KUCHING: An empty semi-detached house in the Stampin area was razed by fire on Saturday night, prompting the Fire and Rescue Department to respond.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 8.21 pm regarding a house fire at Jalan Stampin.

Firefighters from the Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya stations were dispatched to the scene to carry out firefighting operations.

Upon arrival, the teams found that the fire had already spread to a neighbouring house and immediately began efforts to contain the blaze.

Firefighters sprayed water on the second house to prevent the fire from spreading further and causing more damage, the department said in a statement.

According to reports from the scene, firefighters managed to extinguish the fire and minimise damage to the neighbouring house.

The second floor of the semi-detached house was completely destroyed, while the adjacent house sustained about 40 per cent damage to its upper floor.

Overhaul operations were conducted to inspect for any remaining embers before firefighters returned to their respective stations after the operations concluded.
