KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd’s Socio-Economic Enhancement Development (SEED) Programme has charted a new milestone with the successful development of a digital solution specifically to manage and monitor the programme.

Sarawak Metro chief executive officer Mazli Mustaffa stated that this latest achievement is aligned with the aspiration of creating economic opportunities for local players through the SEED Programme, which the company introduced to add greater value to the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project.

“We are indeed happy to see that a local company has taken up the challenge to develop this digital solution to further enhance our SEED Programme initiatives,” he said during the official handing-over of the digital solution to Sarawak Metro here, today.

According to him, the digital solution, known as the SEED Programme Monitoring System (SPMS), was developed by a local Sarawak Bumiputera company, Tempah Digital Sdn Bhd.

He explained that the SPMS was designed to streamline project monitoring and enhance efficiency and is a key component of the SEED Programme; reinforcing Sarawak Metro’s commitment in skills development and growth of the local public transport industry.

“The development of this system is even more meaningful because it was developed by a local Bumiputera company led by young, talented professionals,” he said.

As part of Sarawak Metro’s commitment to building local expertise, he shared that a member of its IT staff also underwent an attachment with the system vendor during the development phase of SPMS, providing opportunities for the transfer of knowledge and skills.

The SEED Programme, Mazli said, provides a six-month internship for local university students, to equip them with hands-on experience in system development.

“SPMS not only improves the project monitoring for our SEED Programme but also ensures that we develop the necessary skills and expertise locally.

“More importantly, this initiative aligns with our long-term vision of nurturing Sarawakian talent and strengthening our local public transport industry’s ecosystem,” he said.

During the ceremony, Mazli also lauded the KUTS Project’s Systems Package 1 contractor, EPR Mobilus Global Rail JV Sdn Bhd (EMGJV) for its support in realising this initiative, while also commending the capabilities of local talent in driving digital transformation.

He assured that Sarawak Metro is working closely with EMGJV to ensure the timely development of the Kuching ART Assembly Facility (KAAF), which is yet another initiative under the SEED Programme.

“It has always been our aspiration to see the ART being assembled locally by our talented local workforce, to further strengthen Sarawak’s role in advancing sustainable public transport,” he said.
