THE vast and remote terrain of Baleh highlights the need for additional elected representatives to ensure better access and attention to isolated communities, said Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai.

Nicholas said that with the increasing land size and population density, a single DUN representative struggled to provide adequate services in the entire constituency.

”Adding new seats can help distribute workload and responsibilities among more representatives.

“The addition of seats will ensure that elected representatives better reflect the voices of the people in the area.

“This offers a fairer opportunity for all ethnic communities and localities to speak up and contribute to the government’s decision-making process,” he said.

Nicholas said this in his debate speech in support of Dewan Undangan Negeri (Composition of Membership) Bill 2025 during the special DUN sitting here yesterday (July 7).

He added that Infrastructure such as roads, schools, clinics and basic utilities still needed significant development.

“With more seats, elected representatives can focus more systematically and effectively on micro-level development in smaller zones,” he pointed out.

He said major projects such as the Baleh Hydroelectric Dam (HEP) had brought an influx of workers, contractors and resettlement activities to the area.

”This has led to an influx of workers, contractors and resettlement efforts, which in turn require more efficient political and developmental management of the area,” he explained.
