SIBU: After years of enduring difficult travel conditions, residents of Entering Usah longhouse in Pasai Siong here are set to benefit from a long-awaited infrastructure upgrade as works to pave the settlement’s main access road have officially commenced.
The project marks a significant improvement for the rural community, where 28 households have long depended on a dirt and gravel road as their sole access route.
The unpaved road has frequently become hazardous and difficult to navigate, particularly during periods of heavy rain.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch’s Chairman, Kevin Lau Kor Jie, recently led a team to inspect the project site and receive a progress briefing on the ongoing construction works.
According to Lau, the project was secured by Cr Jeksen Chuban through the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) under the BP1 (Butiran Projek 1) Basic Infrastructure Improvement Allocation before receiving approval for implementation.
He said the BP1 allocation is specifically intended to fund small-scale basic infrastructure projects that directly improve the quality of life in local communities, particularly in rural areas.
“The upgrading of this access road will transform the existing dirt road into a proper paved route, providing residents with safer and more reliable access to their homes,” he said.
Lau, who is also SUPP Youth Chief, noted that the project is expected to improve daily connectivity, ease transportation difficulties, and strengthen the area’s basic infrastructure, bringing lasting benefits to the longhouse community.
He added that upon completion, the upgraded road will not only enhance accessibility but also provide a safer, more convenient and comfortable environment for residents, reflecting the government’s continued commitment to improving rural infrastructure and addressing the needs of local communities.
