Entries for Kenyalang Journalism Awards 2019 open Monday

KUCHING: Members of the local media fraternity can submit their entries for the Kenyalang Journalism Awards (KJA) 2019 from Monday (June 17).

All journalists from the print, broadcast and online media in Sarawak are urged to submit their entries latest by July 12.

Federation of Sarawak Journalists Associations (FSJA) 2019 president Hii Hong Wee said entry forms can be obtained from KJA committee members or through Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), FSJA Sibu and Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA).

He said completed entry forms must be submitted to Malaysian Press Institute, C2-3, Radius Business Park, Jalan Radius 1/1C, Cyber 4, 63000 Cyberjaya, Selangor.

All articles published in 2018 are eligible to compete and this year’s KJA event will be held at RH Hotel in Sibu on Oct 25.

For Digital Economy category, only articles published on July 1, 2018 until Dec 31, 2018 are eligible to compete.

“In view of the emergence of online news portal, journalists from online news portal can also participate in the award.

“They can submit entries for any of the categories including visual reporting which falls under the broadcasting category,” he added.

Meanwhile, FSJA 2019 committee members together with representatives from the gold sponsors namely Shell, Petronas and Sarawak Energy paid a courtesy call to the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.

During the courtesy call, Hii received mock cheques from all the sponsors.

“I am thankful to the state government for giving us RM100,000 for this year’s KJA and also the continuous support from the gold sponsors towards our event by giving us RM50,000 each,” Hii said.

Present at the courtesy call were Shell general manager (Government Affairs) Jonathan Jolly, External Relations Upstream Shell general manager Jong Lee Fah, Sarawak Energy Berhad Corporate Communication general manager Peing Tajang, Petronas Sarawak manager Norazibah Md Rabu, FSJA secretary Jane Moh, assistant secretary Rudi Affendi Khalik, treasurer Ting Kung Yien, assistant treasurer Zulazhar Sheblee, KDJA chairperson Jacqueline David, NSJA president Andy Jong and other representatives from the gold sponsors.
