KUCHING: A new initiative, the Graduates Enhancement Training Sarawak: Work Readiness Programme (GETS-WRP), was launched last month to equip fresh graduates with essential skills and industry exposure, enhancing their employability and readiness for the job market.
Chief executive officer of Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence Sdn Bhd (SCOPE), Joseph Lim said that GETS-WRP, designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, would provide structured training in soft skills, industry-specific competencies, and work-based learning opportunities.
“The programme focuses on key economic sectors in Sarawak, including Oil & Gas, Digital Economy, Financial Services, and the Public Sector, ensuring graduates acquire relevant expertise.
“With this initiative, we aim to prepare Sarawak’s graduates for real-world challenges, equipping them with the knowledge and experience required to thrive in today’s competitive job market,” he said in his recent statement.
He explained participants would gain soft skills in communication, teamwork and leadership along with industry-specific training aligned with Sarawak’s economic needs.
“They will also receive hands-on experience through internships with government-linked companies (GLCs), government agencies and private firms while workshops on entrepreneurship and digital skills will prepare them for business and the gig economy.
“In addition to the above benefits, interns will receive a monthly training allowance of RM1,500 per month for the entire 12-month duration with terms and conditions,” he said.
The programme is a collaborative effort involving Sarawak government agencies, GLCs, educational institutions and industry experts, all working together to create a highly skilled and job-ready workforce.
Applications for GETS-WRP’s April 2025 intake are now open to fresh graduates from universities in Sarawak. For more information, call 082 231230 or email to the GETS Secretariat at SCOPE: nadzirah@scope.net.my / claudius@scope.net.my .
