ERT member injured while battling office garbage fire

A firefighter monitoring the situation after a garbage fire was extinguished by five ERT members.

BINTULU: A member of an emergency response team (ERT) sustained minor facial injuries while putting out a garbage fire at a building last night (Apr 28).

The injured responder was later taken to Bintulu Hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit for further treatment.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a distress call at 10.17 pm and dispatched firefighters from Bintulu station to the scene.

By the time firefighters arrived, five ERT members had already extinguished the fire using water from a nearby hydrant.

The flames had involved a pile of garbage on the building’s first floor, however, no structural damage was reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
