MIRI: More facilities have been added to the Luak Bay Esplanade with the completion of the second phase of its upgrading here.

Mayor Adam Yii on Wednesday thanked the state government for the allocation of RM486,000 to Miri City Council (MCC) under Projek Rakyat Sarawak for this additional development at the esplanade.

Six facilities have been set in place, namely, a  735 square meter long footpath, 12 benches, six gazebos, six BBQ stands, a 56 square  meter long reflexology pebble walk and a children’s playground.

“In light of the comprehensive facilities provided and the area of coverage being quite extensive, perhaps the council will also look into the possibility of providing additional public safety features complete with digital technology under its Miri Smart City Programme subject to funds being made available,” said Yii.

He said the esplanade is expected to be well patronised especially by residents from the nearby housing estates and also visitors from neighbouring Brunei during the weekends.

He said with the expected increasing patronage,  the council requested its relevant committees to now begin looking into possible issues that may arise in relation to the maintenance and upkeep of the esplanade.

Also present was Deputy Mayor Arrifin Mohamad.
