SARATOK: Several essential facilities including floodgates, farm roads and village access lanes in Sungai Rembus, Pagan, as well as Kampung Hulu, Tengah and Hilir Kupang, together with the Belian Jetty will be upgraded to enhance the safety and comfort of local residents.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said the upgrading initiatives would benefit the wider community across the three main villages in the Kupang area.

“God willing, I will extend assistance through allocations under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to provide better basic amenities for the residents of Kampung Kupang,” he said after inspecting the condition of the village lanes here recently.

He added that every village and longhouse in the Kalaka constituency has continued to benefit from the development efforts implemented by the Sarawak Government and none have been left behind.

For 2025, he said, two RTP projects are being carried out in Kampung Kupang — the upgrading of the Kampung Hulu Kupang multipurpose hall and the enhancement of the SK Kampung Kupang field.

Meanwhile, repair and upgrading works on damaged floodgates and embankment roads by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) are ongoing through allocations from the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).

He further said that upgrading works on two floodgates, along with the construction of a new floodgate in Sungai Rembus and Pagan, Saratok, have already been tendered, with the tender closing on December 16, to help farmers address stagnant water and flooding during heavy rain.

In this regard, he expressed his appreciation to BDDA for approving both projects involving Kampung Kupang and Kampung Pagan in Saratok.
