KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in Sabah dropped this morning, while river levels in several areas of Sarawak remain above the danger mark.
The flood situation in SABAH showed positive developments, with evacuees at 22 temporary relief centres (PPS) dropping to 2,602 people from 806 families, down from 3,325 people from 964 families yesterday evening.
According to a statement from the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee, all evacuees were now housed in 22 PPS across six districts, namely Beaufort, Penampang, Membakut, Papar, Putatan and Sipitang.
“Penampang recorded a decrease in the number of flood evacuees, while the other five districts remained unchanged,” it said.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department forecast no rain this morning in Sabah, but thunderstorms are expected this afternoon in the interior and at night across several other areas.
In SARAWAK, the Disaster Management Secretariat of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force reported that 13 people from three families were still sheltering at Dewan Suarah Marudi as of 6 am today.
The official Public Info Banjir website reported that the river in Long Teru remained at 9.13 metres, exceeding the 8-metre danger level and showing an upward trend.
In Marudi, the river level was recorded at 4.38 metres, exceeding the 3.25-metre danger level, while in Lubok Piasau II, Limbang, it remained at 2.24 metres, surpassing the 2.20-metre danger mark. – Bernama
