KUCHING: A two-storey terrace house at Jalan Wan Abdul Rahman, Lorong 1, Kenyalang Park was destroyed in a fire on Thursday evening.

Fortunately no injuries were reported during the incident.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said an emergency call was received at 7:56 pm, and firefighters from the Padungan station were immediately dispatched to the scene, assisted by personnel from the Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya stations.

“It was found that the double-storey terrace house was already about 80 per cent engulfed when firefighters arrived.

“Firefighters then quickly conducted fire suppression operations using a 200-foot hose line with two water jets, drawing water from a nearby hydrant,” the department said in a statement.

The firefighting team managed to bring the situation under control by 8:20 pm and fully extinguished the flames by 9:02 pm, which prevented the blaze from spreading to neighbouring houses.

“The fire was successfully contained with the help of the building’s partial wall,” the department said.

Bomba Sarawak added that the affected house had been rented out to tenants comprising four men and three women, all of whom were reported safe.

Meanwhile, other agencies involved in the operation included the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), Civil Defence Force (APM) and Sarawak Energy Berhad contractors.
