Evening fire leaves three houses damaged

KUCHING: Three terraced houses at Everbright Estate, Batu Kawa, here were damaged in a fire on Thursday evening.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said firefighters from the Batu Lintang station were dispatched to the scene after a distress call was received at 7:45 pm.

A team from the Padungan station was also deployed to assist.

“The fire involved three adjoining houses, with the first unit already engulfed in flames.

“Fire from the first house had spread to the second and third units. Each house measured approximately 20 by 40 square feet and was of semi-permanent structure,” the department said in a statement.

The extent of damage was estimated at 100 per cent for the first house, 50 per cent for the second house and 40 per cent for the third house.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the incident.

Firefighters brought the situation under control at 8.56 pm and continued overhaul works to ensure no possible re-ignition before concluding the operation at 9:27 pm.

The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
