KUCHING: Set against the scenic backdrop of the Sarawak River, the dinner held in conjunction with the Malaysia Pepper Expo and Conference (MAPEC) 2025 brought together industry players for an evening of networking, cultural expression and gastronomic highlights on Thursday night.

The event was graced by Malaysian Pepper Board (MPB) Chairman and Baram Member of Parliament, Datuk Anyi Ngau, reflecting the board’s continued commitment to supporting industry stakeholders and strengthening the positioning of Sarawak pepper at both national and international levels.

Adding value to the evening, General Manager of Saraspice Sdn Bhd, Fu Siang Lee, shared insights into the company’s research and development initiatives, including the introduction of innovative value-added pepper products developed in compliance with stringent food safety and quality standards.

“Saraspice’s strength lies in its unwavering commitment to quality and authenticity, emphasising that all products are produced using 100 per cent Sarawak pepper and processed under carefully controlled conditions to ensure safety, consistency and premium quality,” said Fu.

He said this when asked by reporters at the dinner in conjunction with MAPEC on board Sarawak River Cruise.

“If you are looking for pepper, look for the Saraspice brand because what we deliver is pure Sarawak pepper that has gone through strict cleaning, steam treatment and grinding processes to ensure it is safe and of high quality,” he said.

The programme also featured a live cooking demonstration using Saraspice products, with chicken dishes prepared to highlight the versatility of Sarawak pepper in contemporary cuisine, drawing keen interest from conference delegates.

Adding colour to the evening was a traditional dance performance showcasing the diverse ethnic communities of Sarawak, reflecting the state’s rich cultural heritage alongside its globally recognised agricultural produce.

The dinner served as a relaxed networking platform and cultural and gastronomic interlude, complementing MAPEC 2025’s broader objectives of strengthening collaboration, innovation and sustainability within Malaysia’s pepper industry.

Also present were MPB’s Director-General, Vincent Sawat, together with industry stakeholders, delegates and partners attending MAPEC 2025.
