KABONG: A long-troubled man with seven past offences was arrested for allegedly threatening his sister and attempting to attack his stepfather during a violent outburst at their family home.
The confrontation unfolded on December 5 when the 63-year-old victim and his wife were visiting the suspect’s house in Kampung Kabong.
The suspect went into a rage all of a sudden, forcing the couple to flee in fear for their safety.
Saratok Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, said when the victim later returned with his grandchild to retrieve some belongings, the 38-year-old suspect allegedly charged at him with a long wooden stick.
This prompted the victim to lodge a police report at Kabong Police Station.
“A team led by Insp. Hendry from Saratok District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrested the suspect the same day in front of the same house.
“Two days later (Dec. 7), the suspect led police to a veranda where officers seized a 30-cm meat cleaver and a 122-cm wooden stick, believed to have been used during the threat and attempted attack,” he said.
During interrogations, the suspect admitted he was intoxicated after drinking ‘langkau’ and claimed he acted out of anger over a dispute with his parents involving rental income from a house in Kabong.
Mathew added that he also confessed to brandishing the knife while uttering the threat “aku nak bunuh kau” to his sister and attempting to strike his stepfather with the wooden stick.
“The suspect, who has seven prior records, had only been released from Sri Aman Prison on May 30 and remains under “licensed release” status until December 18.
“He is unemployed and is reported to be frequently involved in drug and alcohol abuse,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
