KUCHING: A former inmate who sought revenge on his neighbour, ended up back behind bars after going to the victim’s house with a machete and issuing death threats.
Haniffah Abdullah, 29, was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court today (Feb 27).
He pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code read out by an interpreter.
The offence was committed in front of a house at Kampung Telaga Air, Jalan Matang, at around 2.15 pm on Feb 21.
According to the case facts, Haniffah showed up at the 45-year-old complainant’s house in Kampung Telaga Air, Jalan Matang, armed with a machete. He called the complainant to come outside and threatened to slash him and his family if they ever crossed paths in public.
The cause of the incident was dissatisfaction and old grudges against the complainant. Haniffah is understood to be harbouring a long-standing grudge, believing the complainant had previously lodged a police report that sent him to prison.
Fearing for his and his family’s safety, the complainant filed a police report, leading to Haniffah’s arrest on Feb 26. The machete used in the incident was also seized as evidence.
Investigations found that the man intended to make a criminal threat to slash the complainant with a machete.
