SARATOK: A former soldier was among two local men arrested by police for allegedly stealing components from an excavator in Kabong earlier this week.
Saratok District police chief DSP Mathew Maggie said they were arrested by a team from the Saratok District Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) on Oct 30 following a report lodged three days earlier.
He said the two suspects, both aged 26, were locked up at separate locations in Kabong and Simpang Roban.
“Among the items recovered were two Motolite Heavy Duty batteries and an adjustable wrench,” he said in a statement.
Preliminary investigations found that the duo had stolen two excavator batteries worth RM806 and an unspecified amount of diesel from a machine belonging to a 55-year-old village head.
“Both suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and have prior criminal records.
“They admitted to stealing the batteries to sell them to buy drugs,” he added.
The suspects have been remanded for further investigation under Section 379A(2) of the Penal Code for theft of motor vehicle components.
