KUCHING: A total of 69 Malay/Muslim students who excelled in their respective public examinations in 2022 received cash awards from the Sarawak Malay National Association (PKMS).
They comprised 27 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students, 41 Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) students and a student for Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) examination.
Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, who officiated at the presentation ceremony yesterday, said the award was to encourage students to continue to excel in their educational pursuit.
“I, myself was awarded a similar award by PKMS in 1978. And the award encouraged and inspired me to progress in my study.
“The award has also motivated me to move forward until now and this experience I want to share with all students in order to succeed.
“Keep trying and use this opportunity as a platform to achieve success. Nothing is impossible to achieve and be successful,” he said.
Ibrahim said that the Sarawak government under the leadership of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is always concerned with the development of education in the state.
“As soon as he was appointed Chief Minister in 2017, he created the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development to empower education issues in this state.
“He also developed more educational institutions in the state to facilitate our students in continuing their studies,” he said.
At the event, 10 students comprising children of PKMS members were also given encouragement awards to assist them in continuing their studies at local and foreign universities.
