KUCHING: The 9th Karnival Gawai Tematu 2024 and Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu 2024 will be held on June 28 and 29 in Kampung Tematu.
In a statement, Karnival Gawai Tematu 2024 chairman John Pata James Jumin said the event is themed ‘Jak Ndi Otin, Samah To Kayak Adat Bidoyoh’, meaning ‘We Must Preserve Bidayuh Customs Together with One Heart’.
A total of 13 participants for Dayung Gawea Tematu 2024, 11 participants for Sindok Gawea Tematu 2024, and 10 participants for Onak Dayung Gawea Tematu have registered, qualifying them for the final stage.
“The winners from all three of the pageant competitions will receive prizes such as cash, crowns, flowers, sashes, trophies, hampers and participation certificates.
“Miss Talent, Miss Tourism, Miss Popularity, Miss Photogenic, Miss Best Costume, Miss Best Contemporary Dress, and Miss Traditional winners will each receive cash prizes, trophies and sashes,” he said.
Additionally, there will be exhibitions from various government and non-governmental agencies, food and beverage sales, and more.
“All visitors are invited to join and liven up the Karnival Gawai Tematu 2024 and Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu 2024.”
