KUCHING: It’s a proud moment for fellow Sarawakians as Affin Bank introduced the Affin Kenyalang Account and bank card exclusively for anak-anak Sarawak with ‘K’ on their MyKad.
Lauding the initiative, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Sim Kui Hian said the bank account could symbolise Sarawak identity in Sarawak’s nation building.
“Let us come together to support Affin Bank – Sarawak government’s majority stake with 678,000,000 shares, one of (Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s Sarawak First initiative,” he said in his Facebook post.
For the record, Abang Johari is expected to officially launch the Affin Kenyalang Account and bank card during Affin Raya Open House this coming Sunday (Apr 27) at Sheraton Hotel Kuching.
Available as either a savings or current account, with options for debit or credit cards, applicants for the bank’s Kenyalang Account who are 18 years old and above must meet one of several criteria, including being born in Sarawak as shown by the ‘K’ on their MyKad, residing in Sarawak, studying at an institution based in the state, or working with a Sarawak-based company.
Supporting documents such as student ID, utility bills, employment letters or lease agreements may be required as proof.
What sets it apart is its accessibility where no initial deposit is required to open the account, and there is no minimum balance needed to keep it active.
